Motivation
The decommissioning of a large part of the industrial activity of the port of Crotone has led the City Council to proceed with the definition of programme of demolition and reconstruction, in order to set up commercial and tourist activities in the area, together with a maritime station in the fish market, as well as areas for parking and leisure activities that would redesign the strip between the historic city and the sea.
Project Area
The area involved is located opposite the castle between the old port and the new sea front. It is at the centre of a gulf delimited to the South by the archaeological area of Capo Colonna, and to the North by the mouth of the River Neto. The area is currently disused and was in the past occupied by fuel depots. Despite its central location in the landscape and urban fabric, the area has always been closed to the public.
Project Theme
The theme of the project proposes that the area of the fuel depots becomes a grand piazza between the loop of the two ports, conclusion of the Museum of Contemporary Art included in the Urban Regeneration Plan, destined to welcome buildings and equipment for carrying out artistic activities as well as holding exhibitions together with collective services.
